The Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office has filed a case against controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai at the Kathmandu District Court on charges of cybercrime. The attorney’s office demanded seven-and-a-half years of imprisonment for Prasai under the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act.
District Attorney Khadindra Raj Katuwal prosecuted the case on Wednesday, citing previous cases filed against him as grounds for enhanced sentencing. “A case has been filed under the electronic transactions law. Given the accused’s previous record, the sentencing has been sought as per the legal provisions, demanding seven-and-a-half years of imprisonment,” said Katuwal.
Prasai is accused of spreading false allegations on social media, claiming that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli deposited money in Cambodia.
The hearing for Prasai’s remand is scheduled for Thursday. Further investigations into allegations of organised crime are ongoing against him.
