A musical dance drama at Navya Naachghar
‘Premarambha’ brings together Kathak and dramatic storytelling to depict the poignant love story of two individuals.Post Report
Navya Naachghar is presenting its first production, ‘Premarambha,’ at the newly built extension of the Aesthetic Dance Studio in Sinamangal. The performances will take place every Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm until September 14.
‘Premarambha’ is a love story-based musical dance drama directed and choreographed by Namrata KC. Written by Som Nath Khanal, it represents the reality of love struggles in our society.
The dance drama was crafted and is being showcased with the main intention of combining both forms of art; dance and drama, in a single performance.
‘Premarambha’ combines Kathak dance and dramatic storytelling to tell the poignant love story of two individuals. As their romance blossoms, they encounter various societal challenges that complicate their relationship. The performance delves into the themes of conflict and hostility within society, offering a powerful commentary on societal conflicts.
The production features eleven artists, chosen through an open audition, who skillfully bring this narrative to life.
“The limited number of dramas incorporating dance and vice versa in Kathmandu inspired us to create this performance,” says the producer, Dipika Khatiwada.
While the production faced challenges due to financial and time constraints, KC and the team creatively utilised whatever resources they had in their hands. They used music from previous productions, supplementing it with selections from online platforms.
“Although we are encountering various problems in carrying out this musical dance drama, the immense support from audiences and various people has made us grateful and motivated us to carry on with our journey,” says K.C.
The performance is an hour long.
The tickets are priced at Rs500 for the general audience and Rs300 for students.
