Kaski district police has submitted an investigation report to the District Government Attorney’s Office regarding former home minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane, who faces allegations of cooperative fraud, organised crime, and money laundering.
The report was submitted to the attorney office on Monday, confirmed Kaski Police Investigation Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Sharma.
Along with Lamichhane, former Deputy Inspector General Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pachhai, Ram Bahadur Khanal, and Krishna Bahadur Gurung are under police custody for allegedly embezzling savings from the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative. Lamichhane was arrested on November 18 from Kathmandu.
District Attorney Kamala Kafle confirmed that she had recently received the investigation report and was in the process of reviewing it. Preparations are underway to present the case in court. The latest extension for the investigation of Lamichhane and others is set to expire on Monday.
The police are preparing to present Lamichhane in court once again on Tuesday to request an extension. District Attorney Kafle said that a request for the extension would be made in court on Tuesday.
“The investigation report is still under review. It will take time to determine which charges will be applicable so that an extension will be requested again on Tuesday,” she said.
