A fire broke out in Juwitha, Tilagufa-6, Kalikot, on Wednesday, completely destroying three homes and displacing 14 families.

According to Ward Chairman Parvalal Shahi, the fire started at around 3 pm at Dhan Bahadur Shahi's home due to an electrical short circuit.

The homes of Dhan Bahadur's neighbors, Man Bahadur Shahi and Manraj Shahi, were also consumed by the flames. A total of 40 people have been displaced.

The ward chairman said the fire spread quickly because of the wooden roofs and interconnected homes, which were completely burnt within half an hour.

The fire was eventually contained through the efforts of local residents, preventing further damage.

After the fire, a team led by Tilagufa Municipality Mayor Shankar Prasad Upadhyay, along with police from the Galje and Khallagad posts, arrived at the site to assist with rescue and relief efforts.

A detailed assessment of the damage is ongoing, according to District Police Office spokesperson Ram Prasad Pandey.
