School buses ‘smuggle’ drugs
Smugglers are found to be using school buses to supply illegal drugs from India to Nepal, police said.Awadhesh Kumar Jha
Inspector Om Prakash Khanal of the Rani-based Area Police Office said school buses crossing the border were not checked in the past fearing that students may misconstrue such move. However, following the complaint, police in civvies have started monitoring school buses as well. Khanal said that 10 school buses cross the border each day in the morning and evening. Among them, four buses belong to the DPS. The school’s Accountant Birendra Sah said their buses reach up to Forbesganj in Bihar on a daily basis as more than 100 students were from India. However, regarding the complaint, Sah said the allegations were baseless.
Sources said school buses, taking advantage of police lenience, were used to smuggle other various other contrabands, excluding drugs. They claimed private hospitals paying a huge sum of money use school buses to smuggle important and expensive medical equipments evading tax.
In previous occasions, Morang police has held ambulances and petrol tankers being used to smuggle drugs, illegal gold and silver.
