According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Bikram Thapa, thieves broke the boxes and made off with the money in denominations of Rs100 and Rs20.
“The bank’s vault is safe,” said Thapa, who is also the spokesperson for Parsa Police.
According to police involved in the investigation, the thieves packed the money into four or five sacks before absconding with the fortune.
They secured the main entrance with a new lock, which the security guard discovered on Monday morning and promptly informed the police.
