Continuous rainfall triggered a landslide on Wednesday evening, blocking the Surkhet-Jumla section of the Karnali Highway in Kalikot district. The landslide has obstructed around 12 kilometres of the road from Gaganekhola to Hulm.

According to the District Police Office, Kalikot, vehicles have been stranded since Wednesday evening as the increased water flow in the Jite waterfall has hampered efforts to clear the debris.

Govinda Chaudhary, the information officer at the District Police Office, said that the landslide-prone area of Gaganekhola frequently faces such incidents.

Top Bahadur Mahatara, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, confirmed that vehicles were stuck in several places due to the blockage.

Buddhi Baral, supervisor at the Jumla Road Division Office, said the continuous rainfall has delayed the deployment of land movers for road clearance.

The District Police Office has advised travellers to check road conditions before starting their journey.
