Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 US presidential election.

In a social media post, Oli congratulated the president-elect and described Trump’s return to office as a “historic chapter in American history.”

He expressed optimism about strengthening Nepal-US relations under Trump’s leadership, highlighting a commitment to “mutual prosperity and cooperation” between the two nations.

Earlier on Wednesday, President Ramchandra Paudel congratulated Trump as the Republican candidate won the election for a second term, defeating Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.

In the message shared on social media, President Paudel expressed confidence that the Nepal-US relationship would be further strengthened during Trump’s upcoming tenure.

Trump was elected president, capping a remarkable comeback four years after he was voted out of the White House and ushering in a new American leadership likely to test democratic institutions at home and relations abroad, the international news agency Reuters reported.

Trump, 78, recaptured the White House on Wednesday by securing more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency.
