Political parties and civil organisations on Monday presented a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, demanding a strong stance against Israel’s attacks on Palestine and Lebanon.

Senior Vice-chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and former deputy prime minister and foreign minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha led the delegation, which urged Nepal to denounce Israel’s actions on international platforms.

The memorandum called for revising Nepal’s non-aligned foreign policy to explicitly back victims of injustice in forums like the United Nations. It also sought the repatriation of Nepali citizen Bipin Joshi, reportedly held by Hamas and other Nepalis in Israel for their safety amid the conflict.

Bipin was one of 49 students from Far-Western University’s agriculture faculty who travelled to Israel last year. Less than a month after their arrival, a Hamas attack struck Kibbutz Alumim in southern Israel, where they were stationed. The assault claimed the lives of ten Nepali students, and Bipin was reportedly taken captive by Hamas. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) later confirmed Bipin was held by Hamas, but his current status remains unknown.

Prime Minister Oli reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to global peace, justice, and human rights. “Non-aligned foreign policy does not mean allowing the strong to dominate the weak,” he said, pledging Nepal’s opposition to injustice without joining military alliances.
