Police have launched an investigation into the murder of Rajkumar Rumba, a 40-year-old office assistant of police, who was found dead in Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City–11, Amadar, five days ago. The investigation has now focused on Shrikant Tiwari, an inspector in the National Investigation Department, who is under surveillance and being questioned by authorities.
Rumba, stationed at the police unit of Simara Airport, was discovered dead last Saturday (December 21) in Bagmati Province 01–028 Cha 7616 car, parked along the roadside in Amadar village.
A resident of Sukumbasi Basti (Squatter Settlement) in Jitpur Simara–17, Rumba had left his home with the private car at 9:30 pm on Friday. The vehicle belongs to Inspector Tiwari, who has been working at Simara Airport for the past year. This connection led police to begin their investigation with Tiwari.
“Rumba and Inspector Tiwari were known to be close,” said Chiranjibi Dahal, Deputy Superintendent of Police at Simara Area Police Office. “Tiwari claimed during questioning that Rumba had taken the car keys, saying he was heading to Kalaiya.”
Although Tiwari is not in police custody, he remains under constant monitoring within the Simara Area Police Office premises. No other arrests have been made so far. “The case is mysterious, and a detailed investigation is ongoing. We expect clarity in a few days,” Dahal added.
Post-mortem results from Narayani Hospital in Birgunj confirmed that Rumba was fatally shot in the head at close range. His death has sparked protests from his family, relatives, and villagers, who have been staging sit-ins in front of the police office, demanding a thorough investigation.
Rumba, who worked as a cook, leaves behind two wives and three children. He was also a leader in the squatter community.
