Lamjung police have arrested three members of a family for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl and taking her to India. The accused, identified as Sheikh Saitula, 40, his wife, and son, are originally from Motihari, Bihar, and were residing in Besishahar Municipality-7, Lamjung.
According to police, the teenager was taken from Besishahar on the morning of December 8 without her family’s knowledge. She was rescued from a Nepal-India border area and brought back to Nepal, while the accused were arrested at the same location.
The case came to light when Sheikh called the girl’s mother, claiming that his son had eloped with the teenager. Following the rescue, District Police Chief DSP Nishant Srivastav stated that the suspects were brought to Lamjung on Monday and have been remanded for five days for further investigation under abduction and hostage-related charges.
Police revealed that the Sheikh family, who worked in quilt and mattress production in Besishahar, had lured the girl with promises and even bought her a mobile phone before taking her to India. “The teenager was enticed with various offers and was being taken to India when she was rescued,” police reported.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the involvement and the motive behind the abduction.
