The Nepali Army has commenced a trek along the historic footpath used by King Prithvi Narayan Shah during the Gorkha Kingdom's expansion to commemorate the unification campaign. The journey began on Sunday from Hanuman Bhanjyang near the Gorkha Durbar.
According to lieutenant colonel Ashok Kumar Chhetri of the Ripumardan Battalion, the trek will proceed district by district, with segments handed over to respective battalions. On the first day, the Ripumardani Battalion covered the route from Gorkha to Ghatbeshi on the Gorkha-Dhading border. Sunday evening, the torch and flag representing the trek were handed over to Dhading's Shivdal Battalion at Ghatbeshi.
The trek includes banners from the Nepali Army’s five original companies—Sreenath, Kalibox, Purano Gorkha, Bardabahadur, and Sabuj—established during Prithvi Narayan Shah’s reign.
The trek will traverse through Gorkha, Dhading, and Nuwakot, culminating at a grand ceremony in Hanumandhoka, Kathmandu, on Poush 27 (this year on January 11) to mark Prithvi Jayanti.
The Nepali Army has undertaken this commemorative journey annually since 2019, honouring the unification of Nepal and its historical significance.
