Two Indian workers died, and two others were injured in a tipper accident in Sankhuwasabha district on Wednesday night.
According to police, the workers were deployed at the under-construction Arun III Hydropower Project.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Daksha Kumar Basnet, chief of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, said the tipper met with an accident on Wednesday night at ward 5 of Makalu Rural Municipality. The vehicle, returning from the dam site, lost control and fell about 50 metres off the road around 7pm, Basnet said.
The deceased are 57-year-old driver Shailendra Pratap Singh and 29-year-old Shahrukh Mohammad. They were taken to District Hospital Khandbari, where doctors declared them dead around 3:45am on Thursday. The bodies remain at the hospital.
Two other Indian workers, 28-year-old Yogendra Pal and 40-year-old Ishwar Paswan, were injured. Paswan, who is in critical condition, was referred to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, while Pal is undergoing treatment at Khandbari Hospital.
The steep terrain complicated the rescue operation, police said.
The accident site is 56 kilometres north of the district headquarters, Khandbari.
