3 killed as tipper crashes into homeless shelter

Three people were killed when a tipper crashed into a shelter in the Salambutar area in ward 6 of Sankhu Municipality on the outskirts of Kathmandu, early in the morning on Friday. The victims, 21-year-old Akash, Suman, and 45-year-old Harijan, were crushed during the accident. Their full names and addresses are yet to be ascertained, officials say.
The shelter, constructed with corrugated sheets, housed homeless children and elderly individuals.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:15am, when the tipper reportedly lost control and slammed into the shelter. Despite being rushed to Nepal Medical College, the victims were pronounced dead upon arrival.
The driver, 25-year-old Sagar Majhi from ward 12 of Melamchi Municipality in Sindhupalchok, has been taken into custody, said Superintendent of Police Apilraj Bohara, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police Range.
