Situation at Gulmi Hospital has been tense after a child died during treatment.
Chhatradev Rural Municipality-7 local Rajesh Marasini’s seven-year-old daughter died during treatment on Tuesday morning.
The child, who was taken to the hospital after complaining of stomachache, was admitted to the medical institute on doctors’ recommendation on Monday. The victim was administered an injection while asleep at around 6am on Tuesday, following which she lost consciousness and died, the victim’s relatives accused.
“She [the victim] fell unconscious immediately after being injected. We asked the nurses to call the doctor immediately but they did not react quickly, causing her to lose her life,” said Yubraj Bhandari, the victim’s relative.
Dhurkot Rural Municipality-3 chair Padam Bista, who was also present during the incident, accused the hospital of negligence.
“The child was fine till morning,” Bista said. “The nurse administered the injection following which the child began frothing at the mouth.”
The family of the bereaved have been staging protests outside the hospital demanding the resignation of hospital chairperson Gopal Pandey and prosecution of Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra GC and the team, involved in the treatment.
Questions have been raised about the services of the hospital, which has been marred with accusations of corruption for a long time. The medical staff had also been criticised for their unprofessional conduct at the hospital last Saturday.
