Solukhumbu Trail Race, one of the longest distance races of the country, is all set to kick off from October 23.
The 310km ultra race is the highest altitude trail race and will run for 15 days, according to event coordinator The Small World. The event will start from Solududhkunda Dhap-8 of Solukhumbu district and finish at the same point after taking a turn from the Everest Base Camp.
The event will see participation of 40 international runners apart from about two dozen home athletes.
“It will be the highest altitude trail race in the world and will go through Everest Base Camp at 5,384metres altitude,” said Karma Sherpa, the president of the organising committee. “We are hopeful that the event will help to promote tourism at the international arena.”
According to Sherpa, the international participants will also make documentaries during the race and it will be helpful in uplifting sports tourism in the country. “We are in the final phase of preparation and it is the first international level event after Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sherpa.
The event will go through Dhap, Pikey Peak, Namche, and Gokyo before reaching Everest Base Camp and will return to the starting point via the same route.
