A devastating fire destroyed the Rugin Health Post in Himali Rural Municipality-5, Bajura, on Sunday afternoon, destroying its ten-room building and all medical equipment, medicines, and supplies.
According to Raj Bahadur Bhandari, acting chief administrative officer of the municipality, the fire started while operating electrical equipment at the health post. Built a decade ago using stone and timber, the health facility was one of the oldest in the district.
“The health post was located in a remote area and housed critical equipment, including a video X-ray machine, laboratory tools, and a birthing centre. The total value of the destroyed materials is estimated to be around 10 million rupees,” Bhandari said.
The incident has left the community without vital healthcare services, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents in this remote part of Bajura.
The police are investigating the exact cause of the fire while local efforts are underway to address the immediate healthcare needs of the affected population.
