Tharu community in Kathmandu Valley observed the Jitiya festival with great zeal at Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal in the Capital on Wednesday.
One of the most celebrated festivals in Maithili culture, Jitiyal is celebrated for three days. The festival is observed by married women for the protection of their children against accident, misfortune, adversities and for longevity, and prosperity of their children.
Women fast strictly without consuming food or water (nirjala brata) during the main day of the celebration. The event marked various programmes reflecting the Tharu culture and traditional dresses of the community.
