Rally from Basantapur to Tundikhel showcases Gurung culture and traditions.Post Report
The Gurung community is celebrating Tamu Lhosar on Monday, marking the start of their new calendar year. Celebrated annually on the 15th day of Poush in the Nepali calendar (this year on December 30), Tamu Lhosar signifies the beginning of the Tamu or Gurung calendar. The community follows a 12-year cycle, with each year symbolised by a specific animal, collectively known as ‘lho’.
This year marks the start of ‘snake year’.
The festival involves bidding farewell to the outgoing lho year and welcoming the new one. Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, community members gather to celebrate by letting go of past hardships and embracing hopes for prosperity and harmony in the year ahead.
On this occasion, a colourful rally showcasing Gurung culture and traditions was organised from Basantapur to Tundikhel in Kathmandu. The event, a vivid display of the community’s rich heritage, is captured in photographs by the Post’s Angad Dhakal.
