The Bhaktapur District Court on Friday ordered the release of Ashika Tamang, a self-identified social activist, on a Rs20,000 bail. The order was issued by a single bench of Judge Santosh Prasad Parajuli following a detention hearing in a case filed against her on charges of criminal disturbance.
Tamang was earlier released on Rs10,000 bail by the Kathmandu District Administration Office after her arrest on January 15 for allegedly misbehaving with police officers. However, she was re-arrested by Bhaktapur police on January 27 for allegedly damaging structures built to collect fees at a footbridge in Sanga, Bhaktapur, which was constructed by Suryabinayak Municipality. The municipality had filed a complaint with the police regarding her act.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dhundiraj Neupane, spokesperson for the Bhaktapur District Police, Tamang is expected to be released after bail payment.
