Post Report
Chitwan FC defeated Dhangadhi FC 3-1 in the final league game of the Nepal Super League Season 3 at Dasharath Stadium on Thursday to enter the playoffs for the first time.
Chitwan were clear on their target before facing Dhangadhi; a draw would be enough to ensure their entry to the next round. But their target appeared to be in jeopardy early as George Karki scored for Dhangadhi in the seventh minute. Karki sent the screamer from around 35 yards away, scoring what was one of the best goals in the NSL.
Dhangadhi’s lead, however, didn’t last long as Chitwan, earning a penalty in the 12th minute, equalised with Nodir Mavlonov scoring from the spot.
Jaya Gurung made it 2-1 for Chitwan just before the first half came to an end. And five minutes into the second half, the cushion extended to two goals with an own goal by Dhangadhi’s Amrit Shrestha.
With three points, Chitwan not only knocked Kathmandu Rayzrs out of the fourth position but also climbed over third-placed Pokhara Thunders. They progressed with 10 points from six games. Similarly, the loss also denied Dhangadhi from finishing atop the table.
Chitwan had finished last in the opening season of the league in 2021 and seventh in the next in 2023.
