The Kaski District Administration Office has issued a prohibitory order in certain areas of Pokhara, citing concerns over possible clashes and unrest. Chief District Officer Bharat Mani Pandey issued the order, which bans protests, rallies, and gatherings in Sahid Chowk and Palikhe Chowk areas.
The order came into effect from 11:45 am on Sunday and will remain in place until further notice, the district administration said.
The order restricts gatherings of more than five people and prohibits protests, sit-ins, demonstrations, and public assemblies. Violators of the order will face legal action as per existing laws.
The restrictions were imposed after protests erupted following the arrest of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane in connection with a cooperative fraud case. Demonstrations have been ongoing in Pokhara since Saturday, with party members protesting his detention. Additionally, victims of cooperative scams are also protesting near Rashtra Bank Chowk, raising concerns of possible clashes between the two groups. The police have been heavily deployed at the protest site.
