The Central Investigation Bureau arrested a criminal on the police’s most wanted list in Kathmandu.

Superintendent of Police Dipak Regmi, spokesperson of the bureau, confirmed the arrest of Naseem Khan from the Sinamangal area on Saturday morning.

Khan, who has been involved in over half a dozen murders along with kidnapping and robbery cases, is one of the most wanted criminals by the Kapilvastu District Police.

The Kapilvastu police had asked for the assistance of the Central Investigation Bureau following the kidnapping and murder of six-year-old Mohammad Rehman, son of ward four chairmen of Mayadevi Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu.

On February 15, 2018, Rehman was kidnapped by Khan. The child was found dead three days after the kidnapping.

“After the kidnapping and murder of the six-year-old child, Kapilvastu police had asked for the assistance on tracking Khan following which we had been looking for him,” Regmi told the Post. “He has been involved in many criminal activities other than the murder of the six year old.”

According to the Kapilvastu District Police, they were unable to track and arrest Khan because he used to hide mostly in India.

“Khan was a most wanted criminal. There are numerous cases related with murders, kidnapping, and dacoity registered against him after 2006,” Superintendent of Police Deep Shamsher Rana, chief of Kapilvastu district police, told the Post.

According to a senior police officer at Kapilvastu police, Khan had been receiving shelter and protection in India and had some political protection in Nepal as well.

“We knew where Khan used to hide in India, but we could not receive support from the other side of the border,” said the officer on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

“Over the years, we have been able to track his movements sometimes,” said the source. “When we found out that Khan was in Kathmandu for the past three weeks, we shared the information with the bureau. The arrest of Khan is a great achievement.”

According to the bureau, the process is ongoing to send Khan to Kapilvastu for further legal procedures.
