Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav has remarked that it would be a grave crime to postpone the elections to federal parliament and provincial assemblies. 

Talking to journalists in Biratnagar on Sunday, Chairman Yadav remarked that the elections cannot be stopped under any pretext. “The elections cannot be put off citing the Supreme Court verdict,” he said, adding, “The court has also mentioned about ballot papers and it is possible to print the ballot papers within four days in the age of offset printing technology. Halting the election amounts to putting the nation at peril.”

He said that the move to defer the election will raise question over the impartial Election Commission. He said the Election Commission has to furnish reply to the people if the elections are postponed in the interests of a particular party. 

Saying that his party has been holding discussion with Nepali Congress to forge electoral alliance, Leader Yadav said that it has not been finalised from where he will contest the elections. He added that his party’s alliance with NC is aimed at winning the elections rather than defeating anyone.

He made it clear that his party has not proposed Rastriya Janata Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur as the chief minister of province 2. He added that his party has not announced the chief minister candidate.  “Rastriya Janata Party and Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum have agreed to share 15/17 constituency seats respectively in the House of Representatives and 31/33 seats in the provincial assemblies,” he said. “But there will be slight modification in the constituency sharing if an alliance could be forged with Nepali Congress.”

He lauded the recently forged alliances between political parties and said that it would be beneficial to the country if they remained intact even after the elections.
