A total of 60 households in Yangwarak Rural Municipality-3, Panchthar, have been shifted to safer places due to increasing landslide risks as the monsoon continues in the eastern part of the country.
Families residing in Chothrok and Faklung, previously under the Oyam Village Development Committee, have been relocated to a secure location with efforts from the ward office, rural municipality, and police.
According to Ward Chairperson Bimal Rai, the residents of Chothrok have been shifted to a building in Semichyang, while the residents of Faklung have found temporary shelter in the homes of locals in Siran village.
Samakhu, Chothrok, Faklung (formerly part of Oyam VDC), and Seraja in ward number 2 of the rural municipality are at risk due to continuous rainfall since Saturday night.
“Floods and landslides have damaged roads and drinking water pipelines in multiple areas,” said Rai.
Since Sunday morning, vehicular movement along the Oyam-Phalecha section of the Mid-Hill Highway has been halted due to a landslide. The police said it was not possible to resume traffic by clearing the debris, as a large mudslide blocked the highway at Rijal Bhir.
