A buffalo killed a tiger that attacked it in Manahari Rural Municipality of Makawanpur district on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred in ward 6 of the rural municipality, where a tiger attacked a buffalo tied inside the shed of local Bal Bahadur Rai.
According to the police, the buffalo retaliated, resulting in the tiger’s death.
Rai discovered the fight after hearing unusual sounds and, along with his neighbours, found the buffalo injured and the tiger dead.
A team from the Area Police Office, Manahari, along with Nepal Army personnel from the Lamitar Barrack of the Parsa Wildlife Reserve, arrived shortly after the incident was reported.
“When we reached the site, the tiger was already dead, and the buffalo was bleeding from its neck,” said Sub Inspector Santosh Chaudhary. He added the tiger appeared to be old, and injuries inflicted by the buffalo’s horns likely led to its death.
The tiger’s body has been sent to Chitwan National Park for further investigation and a post-mortem.
