Two children injured in a bomb explosion at Dandagaun in ward 5 of Phalelung Rural Municipality, Panchthar, last Thursday have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Hemant Bhandari, chief of the District Police Office, Panchthar, Pawan Rai and Dipsan Rai were sent to the Nepal Cleft & Burn Centre in Kirtipur, Kathmandu.
Last Friday, Pawan was sent to Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar from Panchthar Hospital, followed by Dipsan on Saturday. However, Pawan’s wounds became infected after his parents brought him back to Panchthar without completing the treatment. Doctors at the District Hospital then advised that he be taken to a well-equipped facility.
According to DSP Bhandari, after coordination among representatives from the human rights organisations Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) and CWIN Nepal, security officials, the chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, and the children’s parents, the two were sent to Kathmandu at 4am on Wednesday.
Phalelung Rural Municipality will cover the travel costs, while CWIN-Nepal will manage their treatment as per the agreement.
On August 29, two other children died in the explosion. Eleven-year-old Dipsan Sanwa and his two-and-a-half-year-old sister, Princa, succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment. The children were seriously injured when a stray grenade detonated while they were playing near the house of Maoist cadre Aitaraj (IB) Kerung.
