Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has emphasised the government's commitment to governance and anti-corruption efforts initiated under his leadership of late. During a dialogue session led by Editor-in-Chief Umesh Chauhan at the Kantipur Conclave 2024, Oli discussed recent investigative actions against former deputy prime minister and home minister Rabi Lamichhane, who also heads the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
The prime minister explained that Lamichhane’s case advanced following a parliamentary committee’s recommendation, which specifically named four individuals for further investigation. He noted, “Initially, there was no suspicion of fraud in the cooperatives, but the investigation committee highlighted individuals for further scrutiny.”
Reaffirming his anti-corruption stance, Oli added, “I will not tolerate corruption, nor allow anyone else to engage in it. Anyone involved in misconduct will face a police investigation. The judiciary issues arrest warrants, and it’s the police who conduct inquiries.”
Prime Minister Oli also addressed the political transition, clarifying that, per an agreement with the ruling Nepali Congress party, his tenure as prime minister has 18 months remaining, after which Sher Bahadur Deuba will assume office. He remarked that the formation of the current government has set Nepal on a path towards political stability after years of challenges, asserting, “Nepal’s politics, which had veered off course, is now back on track.”
