Gagan Thapa urges ministers to focus on constructive activities instead of getting fixated on one individual.

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has expressed his dissatisfaction against the government’s attempt to sack Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising.
Thapa’s comments follow a Cabinet meeting earlier this week that decided to move forward with the process of questioning Ghising. The government’s repeated efforts to remove Ghising from his position have drawn criticism from within the ruling party.
Speaking at a programme in Sindhuli, Thapa urged the government to refrain from engaging in unnecessary activities such as seeking clarifications from a government employee repeatedly.
“We have been hearing about the issue of the managing director for so long,” Thapa said. “I cannot understand if this is ill-intentioned or simply a lack of dispute resolution skills. Ghising is about to retire in a few months, after which he can be replaced by a better person.”
He added that the government seemed to be fixated on one individual. “This constant hassle is neither appropriate nor productive,” Thapa said. “Ministers should not get involved in such unnecessary tasks.”
Thapa further stated that it is the prime minister’s responsibility to prevent ministers from engaging in counterproductive actions. “If ministers get involved in unnecessary tasks, the prime minister must step in and stop it,” Thapa went on. “The prime minister is the head of the Cabinet and should take responsibility for both good and bad actions.”
Thapa highlighted the need for the government to focus on positive contributions instead of distractions. “When one does 50 good things, one mistake overshadows all the good work, and this is a sad reality,” he added.
The issue gained significant attention after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening which decided that the Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Ministry would ask for a three-day explanation on why Ghising should not be removed from his position. The proposal was prompted by Energy Minister Dipak Khadka, who earlier sought clarification from Ghising twice.
