Two more die in Taplejung landslide, one seriously injured

Two people have been killed in a landslide at Mehele village of Sidingwa Rural Municipality-6.
According to district police, 65-year-old Keshar Kumar Rai and his son Suresh Rai, 31, died in the disaster that occurred early Monday.
Keshar Kumar had gone missing while Suresh and another villager, Rajkumar Rai, had sustained serious injuries after being swept by the landslide.
The body of the 65-year-old was found some 400 metres from the incident site.
Suresh succumbed to his injuries after not being able to receive even basic medical treatment as the local health post was swept away by Sunday’s landslide, said Chandrakala Kadariya, a member of the district coordination committee.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that it will medivac Rajkumar for further treatment. However, help has yet to arrive.
With the death of the father and his son, the number of those killed in the Taplejung landslide has reached three.

Police on Sunday recovered the body of 30-year-old Ganesh Tamang, a Mehele village local. The landslide buried Tamang while he was trying to take his family members to a safer location on Saturday night.
According to Chief District Officer Goma Devi Chongwang, Bhagimaya Budha Chhetri, 63, Sandhya Budha Chhetri, 33 and a nine-year-old boy, had gone missing in the disaster.
Hundreds of families have been displaced due to frequent landslides.
