Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, who represents the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), secured a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly for the third time on Sunday.
As many as 69 members of the 107-strong assembly voted in favour of the chief minister while 35 members stood against the trust motion.
Along with the JSP, The ruling Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nepal Samajbadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party and independent lawmakers voted for the chief minister.
The CPN-UML and Janamat Party voted against. A total of 104 provincial lawmakers were present in the assembly meeting.
Chief Minister Yadav went for the trust vote after the CK Raut-led Janamat Party withdrew its support to the government and recalled its two provincial ministers on January 23, accusing the chief minister of running the provincial government unilaterally.
The party’s decision to quit the government came on the heels of a dispute with Yadav’s party during the foundation-laying function at the Madhesh Agriculture University in Rajbiraj.
