Madhesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh on Saturday sacked six ministers from four parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre).
The chief minister dismissed the ministers of the Maoist Centre, CPN (Unified Socialist), Nagarik Unmukti Party and Sanghiya Samajbadi Party.
Minister for Economic Affairs Bharat Prasad Sah and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Yuvaraj Bhattarai from the Maoist Centre were sacked.
Likewise, Minister for Agriculture Govinda Neupane and Minister for Water Supply Minister Bechi Lungeli of the Unified Socialist were dismissed.
Bimala Ansari, who became the minister for Internal Affairs from the Sanghiya Samajwadi Party, and Urmila Singh, who became the transport minister from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, were also relieved of their duties.
Chief Minister Singh, who belongs to the Janamat Party, has submitted a letter to the Office of the Province Head, mentioning the dismissal of the ministers.
Chief Minister Singh will take the vote of confidence in the provincial assembly later today. The Nepali Congress, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and the CPN-UML will support the chief minister in the floor test and join the government later.
Singh of the CK Raut-led Janamat Party became Madhesh chief minister on June 7 with the backing of the UML, Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist, Nagarik Unmukti Party and Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi Party.
Singh is the third chief minister of the province. Upendra Yadav’s Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal was ousted from power six and a half years after the first provincial assembly elections after Saroj Kumar Yadav lost the trust vote on June 5. Previously, Yadav’s confidant Lal Babu Raut served a full five-year term as the province’s chief minister.
Madhes Chief Minister Singh’s move has come a few days after major parties changed alliance at the centre.
The CPN-UML, which was the largest coalition partner in the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government, has withdrawn its support to the present government and joined another major party Nepali Congress to form a new government. Congress, the largest party in the House of Representatives, has officially decided to form the new government under the leadership of CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli.
