A 15-month-old child died after being hit by a microbus in ward 1 of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality along the East-West Highway, Saptari, on Sunday.

The microbus was heading towards Biratnagar from Rajbiraj when it struck the child in front of the Kankalini Temple in Bhardaha.

Anita Devi Adhikari, 45, a resident of Bhardaha, and her grandson Adarsha were both seriously injured in the accident. The child succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Biratnagar.

Anita Devi suffered injuries to her legs and other parts of her body, while Adarsha had sustained severe head injuries.

Locals have blocked the highway by burning tyres since 8 am, demanding compensation, claiming that the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence and the overspeed of the vehicle.
