Police have arrested two individuals on fraud charges by affixing a photo on someone else’s citizenship certificate.

The suspects are 28-year-old Abhishek Yadav and 20-year-old Arun Kumar Yadav from ward 12 of Rajbiraj Municipality and currently residing in ward 5.

Police paraded them amid a press meet at the District Police Office, Saptari, on Friday.

Superintendent of Police Dhakendra Khatiwada said the duo had misused another person’s citizenship, which was found in 2023. Arun’s photo was affixed to the document, and a bank account was opened at Citizens Bank in Biratnagar, through which they allegedly swindled various individuals.

A complaint was filed against them under citizenship-related offences and fraud. Police said the district court has extended their remand.
