14 tourists stranded in Rolwaling area
Rescue delayed due to inclement weather, authorities say.Kedar Shiwakoti
At least 14 tourists, who trekked to Tsho-Rolpa glacial lake, have been stranded in the Rolwaling area for the past five days. The flooded Rolwaling river washed away a footbridge and two wooden bridges, while a landslide blocked the trekking route. Their rescue has been further delayed due to inclement weather.
Tourists have been stranded in Na due to a massive landslide between Na and Beding, a tourist village in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9 of Dolakha district.
Dawa Tshering Sherpa, a local hotelier, said 14 people have been stranded due to the landslide. “A huge landslide occurred on the trekking route between Beding and Na,” he said. “We have urgently requested the authorities to rescue us as the village is running out of food.”
He said the government had been requested to rescue the locals or transport food immediately, as Beding is also facing the same situation.
Chair of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality Biswas Kark said they were working to ensure food supply to the area.
“The locals have reported that there is now a stock of food grains available in Beding for a week,” said Karki. "We have prepared food grains for one-and-a-half months to be transported by helicopter, as the trekking route has been damaged and bridges washed away.”
He mentioned difficulties in rescuing stranded tourists and transporting food grains, noting that helicopters were unable to fly due to adverse weather conditions.
