The Hetauda-Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Fakhel-Pharping road, a key short route linking Hetauda and Kathmandu, is set to reopen on Sunday evening. The road was blocked since September 28 due to landslides near Simkhola and Mahalaxmikhola.
Pushkar Prasad Pokharel, director of Bagmati Province’s Transport Infrastructure Directorate, said repairs in both areas have been completed, with the road now in its final phase for vehicle movement. A diversion was created in Simkhola, while the road near Mahalaxmikhola was rebuilt to ensure smooth transport.
“Vehicles have already been operating on the section from Hetauda to Kulekhani Dam and from Fakhel to Pharping,” said Pokharel. “However, due to potential risks, traffic will be allowed only from Sunday evening.”
After the road reopens, vehicles travelling via Hetauda-Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Fakhel-Pharping will be able to reach Kathmandu. Traffic heading to Thankot can also use the Kulekhani-Bhimphedi-Chakhel-Matatirtha route. Additionally, efforts are underway to open the Sisneri-Dakshinkali-Pharping road within the next two days.
Pokharel said that the Kanti Highway is expected to resume operations soon, with the Nepal Army working on repairing the Bagmati bridge and its access road.
