Police have arrested a school principal in Tanahun on the charge of raping a minor.

According to Tanahun District Police Office, a Rushing Rural Municipality-7 local was taken into police custody for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The family of the victim had filed a police complaint at the district police office on August 20, accusing the Jyamiremai Primary School principal of the crime.

As per the complaint, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the minor at her house on August 16.

The accused, who had been absconding since the incident, was arrested from Bhorletar of Lamjung district on Monday evening, said Police Inspector Abdesh Bista.

After the incident came to light, the victim’s family was allegedly offered a ‘compensation’ of Rs200,000 during a meeting with the rural municipality representatives. However, the victim’s family opted for legal action.
