Court extends Lamichhane’s remand by four more days

The Kaski District Court has granted police the permission to hold the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chief Rabi Lamichhane in custody for four more days in order to continue investigations into allegations of cooperative fraud, organised crime, and money laundering.
Alongside Lamichhane, the court extended the remand for former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pachhai, and Ram Bahadur Khanal, who face similar charges.
Lamichhane was initially arrested on October 18 from the RSP’s central office in Kathmandu and taken to Kaski for investigation. This is the latest remand extension, following previous approvals of six, seven, ten, thirteen, and fifteen days for police to conduct inquiries.
The police are probing allegations that Lamichhane misused cooperative funds through Gorkha Media Network, where he served as a director before entering politics. The investigation also ties the RSP chief to a series of financial irregularities linked to the now-defunct cooperative and media company.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to Lamichhane’s political prominence and the involvement of other high-profile figures.
