One person died after being swept away by a flooded Hewa river in Sankhuwasabha district on Saturday night.

According to Sankhuwasabha District Police Office, the dead body was recovered from the riverbanks in Panchkhapan Municipality-5. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

A total of 16 workers deployed at Super Hewa Hydropower Project are out of contact, according to Deputy Superintended of Police Birendra Godar.

He said it is yet to be known whether the workers moved to a safer location following the flood or were swept away by the river.

The flood has damaged the hydropower project under construction at Chainpur Municipality-4.

The flood swept away an under-construction bridge connecting Panchkhapan and Chainpur and also washed away four houses, according to Sankhuwasabha District Police Office.
